Printed a series of fine art photographs for Athens, Georgia photographer Wendy Garfinkel. Prints we have done for Wendy previously have usually been on one of our go to matte fine art papers, German Etching, a beautiful paper in it’s own right. But the paper of choice for these images was our beautiful new extra heavyweight Baryta Fiber Gloss paper. This paper perfectly matches the look and feel of traditional black-and-white double weight silver gelatin fiber prints, only now printing in color is possible. I have tried and even beta tested numerous baryta papers from several manufacturers, and this paper from Hahnemuhle is thus far my favorite. This paper has a beautiful gloss finish without being overly shiny or reflective, and has excellent color reproduction with deep blacks and excellent rendering of both shadow and highlight detail. This paper is even more popular for the photographers we work with for black-and-white prints.
For these prints for Wendy, using a truly supreme fine art paper gave these images the extra richness and drama to elevate them from ordinary cell camera pics to truly outstanding fine art prints. The right paper can make all the difference!
